Only 2 km. From the town of Sighnaghi, the monastery of St. Nino in Bodbe, one of the largest pilgrimage sites in Georgia, since it is the burial place of the revered Saint Nino. Being an evangelist of the Georgians of the 4th century, she is credited with an appeal to the Eastern Georgian kingdom of Iberia (and according to some reports of Armenia) to the Orthodox faith. She moved to the Bodbe Gorge in Kakheti and died there around 338-340. At the request of Iberian King Mirian III (reign: 284-361 AD) a small monastery was built in the place where St. Nino was buried.
